Evaluation

Masthead

The title is once again sticking to that theme of being fun but formal, just like my target audience. This will attract them as the masthead is one of the first things seen alongside the main image.

Mode of Address

The mode of address is one of the things I changed purposely, rather than having the main image in the middle with the model facing you looking into your eyes (as I did in my alternate copy to show I understand the conventions) to attract you I put my model to the right hand side facing down, this is a new way of involving the audience, they follow Justin's eyes to the text and rather than him looking at them he uses his eyes to draw the audiences to the anchoring text and it feels as if he is reading with the audience making it more personal.

Stereotype

I decided to go against the stereotype of men being rough and sporty and all "hard" and show them as people who like to dress up and look good too, however I did not stop portraying the stereotype that despite being the opposite of a really stereotypical masculine man the men who dress up to look good etc. share the same goal, impressing women.

Cover Lines

The cover lines tell us that the audience are less into idle gossip and more into actual information and verdicts on fashion, entertainment and other subjects related. The magazine is aimed at a male audience after all so it offers "Best places to take her on a day out!" telling us the editor assumes these men are young and looking for, if not already with a woman to take out and get with.

Font

The used font is formal but only to some extent as I wanted it, this is because I wanted the font to be sharp but also look fun, as it is right now, this is because that is how I want my audience. I want them to look good, be dressed "sharp" and have class but not be unable to have fun, go out and go wild every now and then.

House Style

I used the same font throughout apart from the title on the masthead and I used the repeating colour scheme of black, white and red. I used these because red has high visibility, it is a fun colour, it stimulates people to make quick decisions and represents energy and desire. White represents perfection and purity. Black represents power, elegance and formality, these 3 colours describe my readers and what they aim to achieve.

Layout

The layout as I said follows many conventions, however I altered a few purposely as I believe it looks better this way. Parts of the cover look sophisticated and others are quite busy, this is once again a representation of my audience and the lifestyle they lead, sophisticated but busy having fun and doing things. It does not take too long to take everything in.

Audience

The audience I aimed at were adult men, ranging ideally from the ages of 24-40. These were men that were of a middle or high class in society with a decent income, with money to spare on nights out, clothes etc. These would be healthy young men who enjoy going out regularly and partying, they love to look their best and are most probably single. I believe I appealed to them by offering advice and secrets like "How to turn 5 suits into an outfit for everyday of the year." or "All of the best places to take her on a day out!" These are the things my audience would love as they live this lifestyle. I also offered chances to win free tickets to shows and money, which for the same reason my audience would appreciate. I also used photos of Justin Timberlake because women want him and men want to be him, they idolise him and if it means they can be like him by reading the magazine and learning how he does it they will do so attracting more of an audience.

Airbrush

The pictures are airbrushed slightly, I used the spot healing tool brush to remove a few wrinkles and blemishes/spots to make Justin Timberlake look better and younger making him more appealing and thus linking to the idea that my audience would want to achieve that and be like him. I also removed some text that was on one of the photos as I've shown in my powerpoint presentation with screenshots of my progress on photoshop.

Anchoring Text

My anchoring text once again links to the idea of appealing to my audience by offering chances to learn more about and become like this idolised person by writing "Interview with Justin Timberlake! All about his new album and much more inside..."

Final Cover 2

I have made another final cover, this one is to prove that despite altering the conventions of a normal magazine on my original front cover I do understand them and can make a magazine cover using them however I do prefer my idea with the changes to it.

Final Cover

I now have my final front cover, I worked on it using Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher.
I made a few tweaks to the design plans in the process like the masthead for example.

Cover Design Ideas

To begin with I sketched 2 ideas of for the actual layout of my front cover on some scrap paper however I then decided to develop them slightly on a clearer level by using microsoft publisher. Despite this being a quick draft and not the final piece I still kept into consideration the colour scheme, the look of my masthead and main image. These are the 2 ideas.

Other ways of attracting the audience

I have decided that every 2 months my magazine will offer 'freebies' or have competitions for the audience to enter in and potentially win a prize of some sort, either tickets to shows, holidays or money. These are things that would please my target audience and this would attract the audience as they will keep coming back in hopes of succeeding in winning.
